Establish routines and clearly defined expectations. Always talk about differences, work to prevent potential problems before they arise, and resolve conflicts professionally and in a timely fashion.

Once you have an established co-teaching relationship, experiment with an eclectic model of instruction. This works best when the ESL and general-education teacher have an established rapport with one another and their teaching styles are able to accommodate much flexibility. a. Teachers who have similar instructional and disciplinary styles are likely to select certain co-teaching arrangements.

b. On the other hand, teachers who have differing styles—perhaps complementary styles—will use co-teaching arrangements that allow for each teacher’s individual strengths to receive a more pronounced focus.
